OBCN entered a team in the Twin Town Challenge to help raise awareness and funds for one of our deserving charity members.
Mike Foster provides a personal summary of the event below:
What a awesome way to raise funds and awareness for SpecialEffect
This week our OBCN ‘Radio Heads’ team joined the weekend as “first timers”. I was joined in our £500 banger (Honda Accord Estate) one of over 100 registered entry cars, by Ben Thompson, Jane Fryatt & Sara Southey Thanks team for putting up with me for 4 days! and for making it such a fun weekend.
During the weekend, Ben & I caught up with a few of the attendees, captured some interviews and we look forward to sharing them on The Business Brunch with Ben & Mike on Get Radio next Sunday 8th at 11am.
We had so much fun with the Twin Town Community. Thanks to all the organisers, mass of volunteers and fellow participants for such a memorable 4 days in Le Touquet, France ??
Here’s some of my highlights.
The start line at Blenheim Palace on Friday. You knew you were at an event that would give so much, in so many ways and keep giving. Going off in a convoy of over 100 decorated bangers was memorable.
The Welcome reception in Le Touquet on Friday night at the Salle des Quatre Saisons. After a couple in the ‘Hotel Bristol’ we joined the other teams for a top night including the Banger Bingo, auctions and Rockaoke. I don’t remember too much except body surfing ‘The Village PPEople’ car from Aston and James and trying to keep up the dancing with Sarah Fletcher my body knew it for the rest of the weekend!
The challenge to recreate a video of a song from the band we were named after. We chose the song ‘Creep’. Check out our video on the OBCN socials where we captured the words ‘creep’ ‘weirdo’ and ‘don’t belong here’ + more.
The track day on Sunday. Taking part in the challenges especially the blind driving and car jousting. It was not so funny when we had 15 cars behind us, revving their engines, as we entered the track for the 4 parade ‘not a race’ laps and then our car not being able to find a gear to go or even get out of the way but we got a cheer! ??
The street party on Sunday. We were told to expect a good night with the street closure and we were not disappointed. Few drinks, with many friends and good music from the stage.
Getting a £500 banger to Le Touquet and home. We had a few worries, such as oil loss, power steering, coolant, no gears but our buyer Ben did well as the budget does not buy much. Pleased to be one of the teams that have donated our car for further fundraising.
& the hospitality in Le Touquet.
It was so good to catch up with so many people & friends from businesses in Oxfordshire.
Finally two things!
A BIG thank you to everyone who has contributed to our fundraising.
